Redfin Data Breach Class Action Over Retained Employee Data
Case Overview
The lawsuit was initiated by plaintiff Frankie Moreno against Redfin Corporation and its parent company, Rocket Limited Partnership. Redfin is a residential real estate brokerage, and Rocket is a homeownership platform. Moreno, who worked for Redfin from approximately September 2020 to November 2022, alleges that the company kept her sensitive personal information on its systems for nearly four years following her departure.
The claims assert that the defendants failed to implement basic security measures, such as encryption and network monitoring, relying instead on cheaper, ineffective safeguards. The allegations involve negligence, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment, invasion of privacy, and violations of Washington consumer protection law, stemming from the exposure of data including Social Security numbers, financial account information, and driver's license numbers.
The plaintiff is seeking a jury trial, along with declaratory and injunctive relief, restitution, and damages for herself and all affected class members. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, and the plaintiff is represented by Kaleigh N. Boyd of McNaul Ebel PLLC and J. Gerard Stranch IV, Grayson Wells and Sam Douthit of Stranch, Jennings & Garvey PLLC.
